With 200+ independent sites, the Novartis web ecosystem was complex, soloed, and outdated. The pharmaceutical leader engaged with Substantial to build a long-term solution for improving and simplifying its global digital presence.
Substantial worked directly with Novartis leadership teams, IDEO, and multiple external partners across the globe to design and implement a flexible product system and collaborative CMS.
Starting with an intensive 6 month discovery phase, the Substantial team worked with Novartis leadership to identify audience pain points, industry trends, and globalization best practices. Insights from this discovery phase shaped the pilot brief and official program kickoff in May 2014.
Iterative building led to a set of responsive page templates and UX behaviors that would scale across hundreds of pages and dozens of corporate sites. Updates happened in real time as new business, content and team needs were surfaced throughout the process. Continuous collaboration with UAT and Novartis teams also helped constantly improve content flow and display.
In June 2015, a new novartis.com and two key business sites were launched. By the end of the year, 25 more sites had joined the ecosystem. The new system has transformed the way Novartis manages and collaborates on their digital properties globally. Substantial continues to be Novartis’ digital agency for their feature and product strategy growth.
